“Taking a picture is like giving a piece of your soul away. You allow other people to see the world through your eyes.” Katja Michael

Born in Costa Rica, Andrés is a passionate amateur photojournalist and street photographer whose work explores social issues and human stories. His travels, both personal and connected to his professional career, have taken him worldwide. Early encounters with powerful images from the Rwandan War and youth culture movements shaped his perspective and inspired him to embrace photography as a meaningful creative outlet rather than a profession.
Professionally, Andrés is a humanitarian, results-driven manager specializing in organizational transformation and solutions‑focused leadership. He has worked with NGOs, UN agencies, governments, and international organizations to strengthen youth and volunteer initiatives, promote human rights, and support education across Asia‑Pacific, Africa, the Americas, the Middle East, and Europe.
Throughout his career, Andrés has dedicated himself to empowering youth, fostering inclusive leadership, and strengthening volunteer‑based organizations so they remain resilient, impactful, and mission‑driven. He has led large‑scale initiatives in complex global environments, ensuring strategic alignment, financial sustainability, and operational efficiency. His work spans governance, organizational development, crisis management, and institutional strengthening.
Furthermore, Andrés has influenced global policy discussions, built cross‑sector partnerships, led diplomacy efforts, and championed development initiatives at the highest decision‑making levels. He has also managed diverse, internationally dispersed teams, building high‑performing cultures while balancing financial responsibility, staff wellbeing, and operational effectiveness.
Over more than twenty years at national and international levels, Andrés has designed, managed, and evaluated development projects and delivered results‑based programs in over 65 countries, including Egypt, Venezuela, India, Honduras, China, Suriname, and Senegal. He has additionally led training and development programs in Jordan, Haiti, Costa Rica, South Korea, El Salvador, and Tunisia.
Andrés holds a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies from the United Nations‑mandated University for Peace (UPEACE). He also earned a master’s degree in International Negotiation and Policy‑Making from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, alongside specialized studies in Childhood and Youth Studies (Open University, UK), advanced studies in nonviolent conflict (Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy), and training in conflict resolution.
